TMGC IN-HOUSE RULES

In addition to the rules set by the USGA/SCGA, our golf course has its own set of local rules. These in-house rules were adopted for the sake of keeping fairness, spirit of the game, and speeding up the Pace of Play.

01.  Sign Up by the Deadline for a Smooth Game Day Experience

To ensure a smooth process, we encourage all members to sign up by the deadline one week before the golf game. After the deadline, reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, regardless of whether it's a member or guest. Your support in recommending guests or friends to join us is highly valued and greatly assists us in maintaining our commitment to the golf courses.

02.  Play Fair: Embrace Sportsmanship & Kind Corrections

Uphold the spirit of sportsmanship and demonstrate common sense when it comes to rules. Avoid being overly strict like a rule Gestapo. Instead, kindly correct each other's mistakes. If necessary, impose penalties on offenders, and if you're at fault, be honest and accept the penalty. Remember, sportsmanship is about being honest with yourself, showing consideration, and fostering goodwill towards fellow players.

03.  Arrive Early: Avoid Disqualification and Tee Privileges

Show up at the golf course at least 15 minutes before tee time. This is crucial for the smooth operation of the Game. Otherwise, you may be disqualified from the Game or penalized by two strokes for delay, particularly when your group has teed off. Additionally, single handicappers have the privilege to tee off on the blue, while players over 65 can choose to tee off on the yellow or red, depending on their preference and comfort.

04.  Keep Pace or Face a Penalty for Slow Play

Keep up with the pace of play or incur a stroke penalty. This means that for each player, when your group falls 2 holes behind or causes a backlog of groups waiting behind, you may be penalized with an additional stroke on your score.

05.  Max Strokes Rule: Stop at 7, 8, or 10 for Par 3, 4, or 5

Stop playing after reaching the maximum strokes of 7, 8, or 10 on par 3, 4, or 5, respectively.

06.  No Gimmes: Putt Through in All Sanctioned Tournaments

Putt through and no gimme in all Sanction Tournaments.

07.  Free Relief for Bald Spots, Mud, or Divots on Fairway

Free relief if your ball landed on bald spots, mud, divot, or other than grass on the fairway and the fringe around the putting green. Pick up, clean, and drop farther away from the flagstick.

08.  Lost or Out-of-Bounds Balls: Follow Penalty Procedures

Lost Balls, Out of Bounds, or on a Penalty Area:

  • Penalty for out of bounds ball
  • Re-tee (One stroke), drop to the nearest point of entry, or line of sight relief (Two stroke).

  • Penalty for lost ball in the thick grass, fairways, penalty area (red or yellow stake)
  • Drop to the nearest point of entry or line of sight relief (One stroke)

09.  Hands Off: Only Handle Your Own Ball

Do not pick up balls that don't belong to you; if the ball belongs to a fellow player, point where the ball is. Otherwise, the offender may receive a two-stroke penalty.

10.  Bunker Etiquette: Rake Footprints, Free Drop for Unplayable Lies

Ball inside the Bunker: (As a courtesy to other players, always rake your footprints and somebody else's.)

  • If the WHOLE bunker is unplayable, free drop outside the bunker but farther away from the flagstick.
  • If PART of the bunker is unplayable, free drop-in any playable part inside the bunker.

11.  Score Accuracy: Verify Before Results Are Finalized

Players bear the responsibility for the accuracy of their scores. Once scores are recorded and the tournament results are released, complaints may only be considered if errors are found in the inputting of scores into the computer. This emphasizes the importance of fair play and accurate scoring.

12. Respect the Course: Repair Divots, Ball Marks, and Keep Clean

As a matter of consideration to the golf course, staff, players, and others: Fill in your divots and fix ball marks on the greens. After the round, remove liters from your cart before turning it in. If there are other people around the clubhouse, reduce the noise. Before leaving the area, clean up after yourself and someone else.
